A square black gig by William Kinross & Sons, Stirling circa 1880 to suit a 14 to 15 hands high horse.
This gig, pictured here, was sold at the Reading Carriage Sales on 6th September 2000 by Thimbleby & Shorland, Auctioneers.

The carriage-maker's mark is engraved on at least one brass wheel hub.
The year of manufacture is normally stamped on the axle underneath the brass
hub cap, which can be removed with a trap spanner.
Note the superior 16 spoke wheels. The driver's cushion is typically
thicker and angled forwards.
If your wheels start to creak then a spot of rain will soon cure them as
the wood expands in the wet.
