This Wagonette Break is in almost original condition, having been held in the Scotmid carriage collection at their Edinburgh Coach Works.  When the Scotmid Coach Works closed in 1993 this Kinross Break was obtained by the National Museums of Scotland (NMS) for their Museum of Rural Life at East Kilbride.  In March 2006 the NMS were deciding whether it could be restored sufficiently to carry the public safely without loosing its originality.  The wheels would need replacing or repairing in order to do this.  This is the largest Kinross carriage known to survive in Britain and may even be bigger than the Light Van discovered in New Zealand.

A Break like this would have been used on a country estate for transporting the shooting party to their lunch.  It would have been a handy for transporting luggage and such vehicles were often used as an exercise vehicle for training a team for drawing a more expensive coach.  There are brackets and marks on the inside of the seat backs for fixing a hooped canvas cover, an essential requirement for protecting ones guests from the Scottish weather.  Compare the fine ironwork of the undercarriage with the heavy wooden construction of the Light Van.  The axles are stamped with E.Richards & Sons, Wednesbury.
