Front view, 1908 |
The two men on the left of the doorway were staff of the works. John Booth joined in 1923, and the photograph was taken by his aunt who lived across the road. John Rankine, with his back to the camera, joined in the mid 1920s. Both men were from Aberdeen.

Funeral procession preparations |
This photograph shows preparations for a funeral procession outside the showroom. The horses are wearing black hoods and are hitched to what looks like a country hearse. Would you leave a pair unattended in the steet like that today? Behind them, on the right hand side, a top hatted driver and his groom are harnessing up a pair to what looks like a mourning coach.
The firm was at both 65½ and at 39 Port Street. The first floor window frames are different in these pictures. You can just make out the spire of a church to the right of the picture. Do you know which church it is?
The works are now a Marks & Spencer store as part of the Thistle Shopping Centre. You can see some more recent pictures here.
